Friday, Bishop Maginn Students will go outside to paint the school patio with sunflowers in honor of the people of Ukraine. They will also be selling Ukraine pin flags for donations of $1 or more. Money will go to a Ukrainian relief fund.
I’ll be there, along with Maria and Zinnia.
Today, Sue Silberstein published this poem by 9th grader Nes’ Shaun Shabazz on the school’s Facebook page.
I want to share it with you:
The End Of A Sacrifice
“What are we fighting for?
Are we fighting for more?
Was there really a need for war?
Innocent children got Mama and children crying..
Why can’t we come to an alliance?
Bombing hospitals and schools.
There’s really no need for that..
Boys..over the age of 18…
Staying to fight for their families.
Pleading for them to come back.
Why can’t we sit down at a tale
and talk and talk about a war that shouldn’t be?
This can all end…Saving lives on both sides…
We shouldn’t pretend innocent soldiers aren’t
dying over a win…
People are taking cover so they don’t get hit…
Hiding in subways…
Praying for all this to end.
There should never even have been a war to begin with…
All for a win.”
Amen, Nancy. You said it so well I can’t even comment further……other than what you said. thank you!
