We all know how March comes in. The farmers don’t even call it Spring until May or late April. We had a sudden snowstorm this afternoon, four or five inches, it looks like.
Maria canceled her belly dancing class, and I ran out with my Leica for photos of the farm in snow. I didn’t get too far; the roads are still icy and slippery. But I did well.
Storms like this always have a beautiful edge to them, I miss Spring all year, but I miss winter in the Spring and Summer. The winter pasture offers a kind of beauty that is rare.
Winters are challenging, exciting. They keep me loving color and light and appreciating it and missing it.
Snow is a decoration sometimes, it frames trees and sticks to barns if there’s any wind.
The animals take moderate snow in stride. Donkeys and sheep are desert and mountain animals, they can take care of themselves But the donkeys always appreciate getting fed in the pole barn when it snows.
This time of year, the sun changes, it becomes brighter and stronger, the day longer.
This is the hard month of winter because it comes at the end when everyone is tired of being cold. My raised garden beds are ready for seeds. So am I.
So close to spring but I can remember snow falling occasionally in April in NE.
Here in Arizona, many trees are covered with new buds or leaves!
