Fate Wants In On My Photography. She’s Been Watching The Leica

by Jon Katz

One of the many things I love about border collies is their great passion for work – sheep is the best, but almost any job will do.

Lately, I’ve noticed that when I’m holding a camera and looking at the pictures I’ve taken, Fate is nearby, watching me closely. Border collies are almost frightening savvy, especially when it comes to working.

I didn’t realize until recently that Fate has noticed my picture-taking and senses there is some work for her. Since she can’t take pictures, she can be in them, and she has picked up the art of posing for the camera.

She seems to be staring at me when there is a camera in my hands. This is new.

I was holding my Iphone camera, and she put her head upright across from me and gave me her curious but intense let’s-to-to-work look.

I took the photo, and then she walked away. She did everything but look over my shoulder to see the shot. Fate has picked up on my photography work. She wants in.

I’m happy to oblige.

She’s a beautiful dog and quite photogenic. She has a lot of personality and one bright blue eye.

She has a lot of admirers out there. We’ll see where this goes. I suspected there was a reason I’m putting up so many photos of her lately. When I have a camera, she seems right in front of the lens and still, which she rarely is.
