Still Life: Fate At Night

by Jon Katz

I call the Leica my shadow camera; it loves light and darkness. Fate is our shadow dog. Like many border collies, she is forever restless, constantly moving, appearing here and there in the dark.

I happened to be holding my camera when I saw her sitting outside of the kitchen close to midnight, staring at nothing I could pick out.

I loved the image of mysterious fate, always on the move, always looking for work, constantly checking out every possible sound or motion, mainly things I will never see or hear.

Fate is a mystical creature, and once in a while, she even sits or stands still.
