I make the rounds regularly of new and used bookstores looking for the right books for the Mansion residents, and now, for the residents in the Memory Care unit.
The Mansion residents are diverse and tend to history books and romances. A lot of them love picture books with photos and stories about animals.
Some like the best and most colorful middle and high school books, others like novels and non-fiction books. I collect a mix of books I think will have an audience and drop them off every month or so.
Some are books I used in my weekly readings, some are books I just came across, or bookstores and thrift stores held for me. They all know me by now, and have a good idea of what I’m looking for.
Today, I went to the Mansion and dropped off the latest batch. I think it’s an excellent selection this time. The Memory Care books are unique, I’ve been working with dementia residents for some years now, and I have developed a solid sense of what they like to read and look at.
Animal stories are popular with everyone.
