Iconic Images: The Bedlam Farm Poster, February, 2021

by Jon Katz

I never get tired of seeing Maria communicate with the donkeys. It’s become iconic in my mind, a symbol of the farm. If we had posters, I’d put this photo on it. Donkeys are independent animals, not needy like pets. They seem to need some attention, it steadies them and calms them.

In this kind of weather, Fanny in particular needs to talk with Maria. And listen to her. It’s a two-way street with these two, and I never tire photographing it.

  1. A really sweet photo! You can just feel the love Maria has for Fanny and the trust Fanny has in Maria. Just the two of them together in their own little world …

  2. I love all your pictures of the snow, and especially this one. I really like your new hats too – they look so snug and warm. I can’t help but wonder often now how Moise and family are faring in these winter storms you are having there. I can’t even imagine trying to build a house in such weather. I’m so thankful you got them all new boots before this cold weather came. Stay safe and keep up the good work – your pictures are awesome.

    1. Moise and his family are used to cold weather, and don’t change their behavior much. THe new house, I gather, is just about ready..
