Normally, we have a peaceable kingdom here on the farm, but not in weather like this. The animals get restless, hungry, and possessive of their food.
Normally, the sheep and the donkeys eat side by side, there is plenty of hay spread over three feeders, there is really nothing to fight over.
In this kind of nasty storm, it’s a different story.
The donkeys gather around their hay and sort and stomp their feet and even kick to make sure the sheep stay on their side of the pole barn, eating their hay.
The donkeys are smart about staying inside, there isn’t a drop of snow and ice on them. The sheep are more adventurous, with their heavy coats, snow, and even ice doesn’t but them as much as it does the donkeys.
I spent a half-hour in the pole barn next to Lulu and Fanny. They tolerated me, but none of the sheep came near us. And nobody else touched their hay.
