Bud knows how to charm me into giving a treat or a scratch. He comes up and uses his big brown eyes to let me know he wants something, most often a scratch on the head. For the first time in a couple of years, Bud now trusts me enough to jump in my lap, something he was always afraid to do – I was told he is very fearful of men.
It took a long time, but I think we are trusting one another now. Patience is everything with dogs like that.
Many years ago we rescued a beautiful dog who would cower and pee if I raised my voice to call my kids. Luckily I can whistle really loud and that didn’t bother her. She was a sweet, tender-hearted dog and became my shadow. We became very bonded. It took about 2 years but eventually I could even raise my arms and my voice and she would just look at wagging her tail. Trust takes time and compassion and is so beautiful when it is earned.
Sweet Bud, who could say no to the face! Such a charming little man.
Do you think he knows how Zinnia loves and trusts you and that has helped build his trust?
