At Bishop Maginn High School, Sue Silverstein’s art class is a magnificent hive of creativity, encouragement, and support. A few weeks ago, I sent Sue a special supply of sculpting clay in 70 colors on behalf of the Army Of Good.
She put them to wonderful use.
While the class watched in astonishment, Alysha, a junior at the school – her family is originally from St. Lucia, a fertile island country in the Caribbean – molded this cartoon character in less than 20 minutes.
We’ve sent about $600 worth of art supplies to Sue and her students, and it is money well spent. Sue has the gift of lighting the creative spark in her students, and the supplies we sell them to trigger and release all kinds of creativity.
It’s important, and once again, I thank you for supporting it. It does these children a world of good and brings out the artist in so many of them. Soon, we’ll have more students’ art to put on sale.
Everyone in Sue’s class gets the chance to show their creative spirit and be encouraged and supported.
The tools and supplies we’ve been sending for two years have made an enormous difference in the lives of so many refugee families. These tools boost their confidence, open upon the possibilities of creative careers, and bring the students together.
The art is also healing for many, I’ve seen that a hundred times. Whatever Sue gets, she uses to great effect. It is a pleasure and an honor to work with her and these wonderful children.
This is a wonderful creation. Could they be made to sell?? Alysha has real potential, in my opinion. Good for you and for Sue Silverstein in encouraging and making it possible for these students to develop their talents.
Karren, I just checked and she can’t bear to part with it, maybe next time tho..
Keep us posted!
I will Kaaren this program is valuable to the children, as you suggest and when someone outside buys their work, it’s a great boost to their self-esteem. I will keep you posted and thanks for asking.
This looks like something made in order to create a Disney character or cartoon. So cute.
It was inspired by a Disney character…
