Today, it was the Northeast’s turn to get hammered by a huge and powerful storm no one really saw coming. A million people without power, some Virginia drives still waiting to get their cars off of a freeway. We missed the snow, but we got the cold. I wonder if there is anyone left in the world who is not an elected leader who doesn’t see climate change unfolding before our eyes every day.
Mother Earth is angry and she is trying to give us all a message we cannot ignore. We haven’t got it yet, and our children will pay for our greed and ignorance.
This morning, it was brutally cold. The car windows froze and couldn’t be opened up, the dogs were dancing on the ice and Bud hid in the dog house rather than run on the ground. Even Zinnia, a small polar bear, didn’t want to be outside. The windows in our bedroom were all frosted over and we kept the heat on to make sure no pipes froze.
The bedroom windows were all frosted over, it was a chilling but beautiful tableau.
It was so cold in the bedroom that the air from the sleep apnea mask nearly froze on my face. I had to hide under the covers.
Lots of people south of us got it a lot worse, from Cape Cod down almost to Georgia. Our generator will be hooked up on Thursday. I’ll feel better when it’s up and running.
I guess I have my head in the sand but I remember walking in snow up to my waist when on the way to school….I am 82 now so that was many years ago. I remember when I moved back to Montana when I was 18 and for a few days it was 40 or 50 below…. Was that climate change…I don’t think so. This kind of weather has been going on since time began….What is new about this kind of weather??
You don’t have your head in the sand, Sally, you have it stuck right up your ass…
The tone of your response to an 82 year old woman sharing her memories & HER opinion was unnecessary. I worked in ministry/chaplaincy with older adults for years. Guess I’m just sensitive to these things.
Hey, Linda, I have no idea what or who you are talking about. I have no memory of speaking harshly to any person of any age about their memories. And if I did, I’m not sure why it is your business. I get a lot of messages and often answer abruptly to save time. Sometimes I get hundreds of messages in different forms, I’m sometimes brusque. It seems arrogant and presumptuous to me for you to be telling me how I should respond to posts from my readers. If you don’t like how I respond to people, I’d suggest going somewhere else.
I’m sure you can accurately judge the tone in this message. If you are speaking about the suggestion that there is nothing new about the weather, while millions of people are homeless and have lost everything to floods, fires, and tornadoes, I have absolutely no regrets for my tone or response. It was offensive to me. I am an older person too, and I am responsible for my words. It is patronizing to suggest otherwise. The past two presidential candidates are her age if she is 82.
I don’t need a stranger to judge me or tell me how to write. And how do you know her age?
Hmmm…
Not sure if I’m laughing or crying. Definitely shaking my head.
