I got a call from the Mansion today, an SOS alerting me to the fact that they have almost entirely run out of shampoo, hair conditioner, and body wash. The Army Of Good has been supplying these things to the Mansion for several years now; the residents are responsible for buying their hygiene things.

I’m told there are almost none left, “and we can use as many as you can get.” It’s an emergency; personal hygiene is essential to the residents and their dignity and comfort. Most of them don’t dare to ask, but I know many have no money to buy these items for themselves.

It is fitting that I should get this call on Christmas week; I can’t think of a better thing for us to be doing, for them, four ourselves, for our souls and hearts.

The world can get as ugly as it might, but we can still lift ourselves up, reach outside of our lives and do good, especially this week. It feels good.

The Mansion/Refugee Fund is low; we spent a lot on the existing and new refugees in Albany and things for the Mansion. The Afghan refugees need just about everything.

I’ve been dipping into my own money, and I don’t have enough in the fund or outside to buy the number of items I need today. I’m estimating $3oo to $400, perhaps more. There are 34 residents at the Mansion at the moment.

Many can share the shampoo, body wash, and conditioner. I prefer to buy good quality items for them.
