When I saw this old candle holder in our favorite antique and restoration store, I knew I needed to take it home. It cost $80, which is about one 20th of what it would have cost in New York City.
We both loved it right away; it symbolizes warmth and intimacy. It sits right with us at dinner time; we dine by warm candlelight every night. I’ve been itching to capture the feel of it, and I sicced my Leica on it tonight.
The candle holder has a lot of energy; I think it belonged to a millionaire and was lit ever night by a butler. It’s come a long way down, a Downton Abbey sort of thing.
It suffered years of darkness and neglect, but it’s in good shape, with all of its crystals, and it landed in a place where it loved, appreciated, and lit up every night. Is there such a thing as candle rescue?
It’s just lovely.
Jon, if you unhook the crystals and spray them good with Windex (let them drip over the sink), then rinse in warm water and pat dry – they will shine up beautifully. Learned that trick when we had a larger chandelier that everyone dreaded having to clean 🙂
Stay well!
thanks for this idea!
