Maria and I get the most interesting mail sometimes. A reader named Nancy Kelly send Maria a lovely package and this wood carving.
I don’t know if there is a Katz Hardware store or not, but I liked the wood carving, it’s joined the clutter in my studio. Thanks, Nancy.
There is, indeed, a Katz Hardware Store … it’s on Main Street in Glastonbury, CT.
There are several elsewhere also, including pennsylvania…
Jon…
Don’t know about Katz Hardware. But Katz Drug Stores were a presence in Kansas City, MO. My wife used to shop there while growing up. By then, Katz was selling many items besides pharmaceuticals.
Katz’s first stores opened in 1914, and the chain grew to 65 stores in 5 states. From roofs of the older stores, the huge figure of a stylized cat in a sports jacket looked down at entering customers.
As “big box” stores gained popularity in the 1960s, Katz began losing market share. In 1971, Katz was sold to the business that eventually became CVS.
