We have a small lake nearby called Dead Lake because there used to be no fish in it. I think the state has dumped some fish in because I see fishermen there all the time.
Today, I noticed the beautiful reflections the houses on the northern side of the lake were making in the cold but calm water. I thought this was a perfect photo for the Leica, but I also wanted to see what the Iphone 13 Max Pro camera could do in the fading afternoon night.
I love them both, but see what you think. I’m too close to it to judge anything too clearly. One needn’t be wrong; both have their compelling way of telling a story.
The vacationers up here fascinate me. Even the smallest slicer of property on any kind of water is considered paradise and priceless. The lake doesn’t seem to mind.
The Leica lakeshore is fantastic in its detail. Even the reflection is crisp and clear. But in total, the picture seems flat to me compared to the iPhone. In the color picture, I can sense the distance of the far horizon better. The clouds are more defined and appear at different distances from the viewer. I agree. What you want the photo to highlight or do for you determines which lens to use.
I choose color every time. It’s really great!
My vote goes with the B&W image, John. The iPhone color image is beautifully composed and the colors are spectacular, but it’s akin to a woman whose make-up overwhelms any sensation of beauty. The Leica Monochrome displays the beauty and character found in a truly beautiful woman who doesn’t need cosmetics.
I have a hard time liking black and white, but in this case prefer it.
The black and white shows the houses and shore line well. The color shows the drama of sky and water. Each has something special to offer.
Love the black and white-so soft and moody.
