I’m not sure Maria has ever been sick until today. We have been living together in the decade – perhaps a cold or two somewhere along the line. She is the healthiest person I know and can snowshoe for miles. Yesterday, when she went to the pharmacy to get her Covid-19 booster, she was there a flu shot.
She had a dumpy night. We got up early to go to Vermont to get Maria’s yarn, and as we headed home, she just crashed – fatigue mostly, but some aches and pains also. I drove; she just wasn’t up to it. But she got her yarn, for sure.
I took this shot after the sun went down. I made dinner and am hovering sporadically, but she will do what she wants to do.
She does not blame Bill Gates, Joe Biden, Jews in Space, or Dr. Fauci, for the side effects. She is grateful to live in a country where she can get a flu shot and Covid Booster. So am I.
I’ve gently and not so gently nudged her to lie down for much of the day, assuming the role of my grandmother.
She is wiped out. She can read for five or ten minutes, then falls asleep. She took two Tylenol and is getting much stronger already, but when she asked me to close up the chickens, I knew she was still wiggly and googly. She loves the barn chores and never wants anyone else to do them.
She promises to rest until tomorrow morning, and then, all bets are off. She’s a big girl; she can take care of herself. I’ll hover and make myself annoying. I’ll try a movie to keep her steal, and gobs of tea.

I had a reaction after my second shot of the Modern. I got very tired and slept 10 hours. I was tired for about two months after that. I’m still glad to have gotten the shots. We are just fortunate to get this protection from that deadly virus. So many people from other countries do not have access and wish they were as fortunate as us. I hope to get my booster soon. I’m glad that Maria got the shot. I’m sure she will be feeling better soon. She just might be extra tired for awhile. Rest if you need it Maria.
I’m surprised that the pharmacy gave the booster and flu shot at the same time. No wonder she was hit hard. I tried to space it out by at least four weeks between the two shots. I think the flu shot was the worst of the two for me. Here’s wishing Maria a speedy recovery.
Lots of people get both shots at the same time, some have side effects for a day. The pharmacy knows what they are doing, she’ll be fine in the morning. We live in a dream work thinking all this can be done with no bumps.
My covid booster had me down for 2.5 days. And I would do it again for protection. Hope Maria feels better soon.

Neither the original COVID shots or the booster gave me any problems. However the enhanced flu shot made me headachy, nauseous, and weak. The pharmacist and I are agreed that, despite my age, I should only get the regular flu shot.
I think that is the most common side effect of the covid shots. The fatigue which can last for hours or days is just an inkling of what covid could have in store. Of course some people have no symptoms from covid and others die and there is everything in between. It is a bizarre virus. I am against mandates but I do wonder why anyone wouldn’t want to be vaccinated for it!
