I love dogs and the way they think (or don’t think). They are adaptable, loving and their instincts are strong and sharp. In the winter here on the farm, life changes for them.
The fenced-in playground is not comfortable, it’s piled with snow and ice and is cold and wet. Zinnia loves cold and wet, Fate can tolerate it, Bud hates it and wants to spend his days dozing in front of the fireplace and searching for crumbs in the kitchen.
It’s cold and snowy this week, all three dogs gather in their pack in the living room in front of the fireplace. Most of the time when I walk by there, the three of them are curled up together snoring. When I come by they all get up thinking there might be a treat or a walk outside.
When I keep moving, they go back to sleep. Animals know what they need, and they have trained people to give it to them. They are a source of great joy to me.
I’m getting a new dog next week and I have always been impressed with how clean your dogs and your house look. I know Zinnia takes frequent swims in whatever available puddles (and more) that she finds. Fate dashes around stepping in sheep droppings, and I’ll bet But has been digging for traces of chipmunks !a few times. Plenty of opportunities for dirt and grossness to be tracked into the house! So, how do you and Maria keep everything so clean?
It’s quite simple we just clean them off..
