Next week I’m heading to Albany to meet with school officials to plan and launch our Thanksgiving Food Baskets Bishop Maginn Amazon, Wish List.

Groceries are soaring in price, and several new refugees (some Afghans included) are struggling with food insecurity already.

The Wish List – to be posted on Amazon next week – is an attempt to reach as many families as possible with baskets of all the items they might need to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving, the first for many Bishop Maginn families.

We are negotiating with grocery stories for help in obtaining perishable foods.

We’ll post the non-perishable items listed below on the Amazon Marketplace, people can choose the things they wish to donate, and they will be sent directly to Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, arrangements are being made for the refugee families to pick them up at the school.

We’re also trying to get gift certificates for turkeys from Wal-Mart.

We have a partial list of suggested items, but more might be added. None are expensive:

Stuffing (bagged or boxed.

Dried potatoes.

Canned or powdered gravy mixes.

Biscuit mixes.

Quick bread/muffin mixes.

Canned/dried vegetables.

Canned cranberry.

Powdered/canned milk.

Dessert/cookie mixes.

Nuts/dried fruits.

Salt/pepper seasonings.

Canned olives/pickles.

Sweet or special treats with a holiday theme.

Large baskets/holiday ribbons/basket wrap.

People will be able to send cash donations next week if they prefer. We are in contact with grocery stories and are seeking donations of turkeys.

If you wish,  you can send any of these items to the school at any time starting next week. You can buy them at your local grocery stores. They can be sent to Thanksgiving Food Baskets, Bishop Magin High School,  75 Park Avenue, Albany, N.Y., 12202.

The Wish List will make it simple and get it quickly to the right place. Look for it Wednesday and Thursday and thanks.
