Above my first collage, a “thanks card” artist Emily Gold taught me how to make it in a class this morning. The course was excellent. I loved it, and I very much look forward to trying to master this new medium.
The artist and friend Emily Gold came to the farmhouse this morning to give me my first collage lesson. I want to learn collage to make “thank you” cards for people who donate to the Army Of Good.
Emily is a natural teacher, honest, encouraging, and gentle.
She’s been doing virtual collage lessons for months now; I loved the “collage kit” she offers as part of the class. She charges $60 for her hour-long class.
Collage is, like most worthwhile things, harder to create than it looks. But I think it is something I might be able to do well and often. I posted up above my first “thanks” card, an image of a donkey.
Maria and I will make more collages this weekend; I’m ordering cards and envelopes to mail them out as soon as I make them.
As I grow older, it’s important to remember that learning is growing and growing is learning. I will never retire; I will never stop learning. I’m glad I don’t have enough money to bed; I have a lot of good work to do.
Emily is a great teacher and an incredible artist. She is also a much-loved baker; her farmer’s market stand always has a line. I was exhausted after the hour-long class.
Collage will take some work for me.
Emily brought papers and pencils and markers and brushes and showed me the dozen or so ways you can draw and use all kinds of paper to make art.
I learned a lot; I have a lot more to learn.
I liked my donkey. It has promise. I think donkeys, sheep, and dogs will be my collage and cards’ focal point. I’ll send out the cards as often as I can, this will take me a while, and in the meantime, I’ll send out Emily’s wonderful “appreciation” cards.
Maria sat with us during the class, and I was humbled by the terrific work of these two artists; their collages were a thousand times better than mine.
This is an exciting time of life for me, meaningful, challenging, exciting.
Lovely donkey collage. (As a former preschool teacher, I think had as much fun – or more – creating collages with kids. They often had interesting approaches that I had not thought of). For your collage entertainment, check out Moe Whitehouse Collage Art on FB. (She may also have a site, but I don’t know).
