These past 10  years with Maria have been fascinating to me in so many ways, she is one of the most creative people I’ve ever known.

One joy has been watching her transform the humble potholder into a beloved work of art. When she took the plunge and decided to be an artist, she doubted people would buy anything she made. The potholders sold right away, they gave her the strength to be an artist.

She is very loyal to them, they were there when she needed them to be. Now the humble potholder has become one of Maria’s landmark works. She hasn’t forgotten them.

Potholders have evolved. My mother used hers to lift hot pots off the stove. Today, the potholder has grown up and takes many forms and holds many meanings.

Maria’s potholders just grow, a monument to her creativity and perseverance. I never imagined a potholder to be so artistic and so creative, a work of art all by itself. Or that she would sell them all over the country and a good chunk of the world.

Maria has sold thousands of potholders by now. She insists on keeping the prices low, and she wants people to afford them easily. Peo, all over the country and different parts of the world. People give her potholders as gifts; there are even some collectors now.
