The donkeys have had my number for years. They know if they can get me to look them in the eye, they will get some alfalfa cookies.
They hear me coming a mile away. I pulled the care into the driveway this morning, and I coughed. Lulu and Fanny came right out of the pole barn, a couple of hundred yards away. When I came near the barn to drop off some mealworms for the chickens, Lulu was right at the fence, looking me straight in the eye.
It was an ambush.
Gotcha was what I thought she was saying. A minute later, Fanny and I were both chewing on alfalfa treats. I cannot resist those big brown eyes.
