For a while now, I’ve been looking for a lamp to brighten up my office.
As it stands, the only lights I have are on my desk and the computer. I need a lamp that will brighten up the room, especially as it gets dark earlier.
When we bought it, there was nothing left of the former owner, a remarkable woman named Florence Walrath, buy her flowers.
Maria remembered some old lamps in the basement and some workshop tools in o.
Today, she foraged down there and came up with a couple of old lamps. This is the strangest lamp I can recall seeing, so I was drawn to it right away. If we can fix it, I want it in my office.
I’ll put it on a workbench next to my desk and put an LED light bulb in it.. First, we have to rewire it, something Maria has done many times, but that is new to me.
We’ll go to the hardware store in the morning and get new wiring, etc. Maria says she’ll show me how to do it. It’s something I’m eager to learn.
We can’t really figure out how old it is or in what period it was built. Maria thinks it was manufactured sometimes in the 193o’s. I fell in love with it right away; I can’t say why.
I feel the lampshade will reveal some interesting sketches and colors when the new LED bulb is done. We’ll get it in shape tomorrow; I’ll keep you all posted. I would love to re-wire a lamp for the first time in my life.
This is a season of firsts for me. I want to keep that going.
Tomorrow promises to be interesting in another way. A New York City rapper comes up from the city with two photographers to get photographed with a black sheep for his next album cover. We have two black sheep, Asher, and Issachar, named after two students at Bishop and Maginn. This will be a first for us.
The rapper’s brother – a UPS driver – was driving by the farm and saw our black sheep and came to the house to ask us if his brother could come up and be photographed with the black sheep.
It seems the next album is titled “Black Sheep.”
The rapper is also a guard at a New York City correctional facility. I’m eager to meet him.
Lots of interesting people come up this way.
Then we’re going to see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the newest Marvel Studios movie. Much hype about it. As a loyal Marvel comic book kid, I can’t bear to miss any Marvel movies.
What a treasure! Your lamp reminds me of a similar lamp that was on my grammas farm. It was in her sewing room and the daisies on the lamp shade looked beautiful when it was lit up! Enjoy rewiring your first lamp!
Isn’t Robin considered a “black” sheep? I was just wondering.
Also, in your opinion what are your top 3 Marvel movies? (My husband and I just watched “Captain America: Civil War” for what I think was the first time.)
Good question, I’ll ask the boss..She says yes, he is a black sheep, but he wouldn’t stand still for second to be photographed…
Jon…
This is a find. Use it well.
I haven’t seen an appliance cord like this since the 1940s. Assume your home’s AC outlets are all grounded.
The project shouldn’t be a problem. Assembling a lamp was my high school shop project, and I’m no DIYer.
But caveat: with something this old, no telling what you could find.
We’re placing the cord and all the wiring. I’m not plugging that into a three hundred year old f armhouse..
What a cutie! The shade is probably from the 50s/60s and the lamp itself probably much older. Have fun restoring it! I can’t wait to see it working! 🙂
This all sounds so cool!! Have fun with it all!
