The last 24 hours have seen a lot of activity on the Mansion Front. This morning, I brought 4 beautiful displays of mums to put on the Mansion’s front steps.
I ordered another round of clothes for the new resident who came with nothing but the clothes she was wearing. Shoes, underwear, socks, and sweaters are coming Monday. She has plenty of pants and shirts now.
Maria and I are working on an Autumn display for the front of the Mansion – hay bales, squash, mums, pumpkins, and any autumn stuff we can muster.
Last night, I heard that the Mansion was struggling with a staff to help with dinner – exhausted aides have quit or resigned over vaccine mandates. I mostly washed dishes and helped clear.
They have enough people for tonight, but I might be washing dishes more often at the Mansion.
It seems everyone is looking for help, especially in the worn-out and underpaid health care field.
It’s not my business, but I will never understand people in the health care field so enraged over the need to get vaccinated.
I understand that I don’t understand many people, and they don’t understand me. It is something I need to accept.
I am grateful for my vaccines; they may have saved my life.
I should say that some of these defiant women have great hearts and have done wonderful work. I’ll miss knowing them.
The donated bag of stuffed animals I brought to the Mansion was a great hit. I felt like Santa Claus walking around with Zinnia and passing them out.
I’ve resigned my pizza lunch for the aides working so hard and for so many hours. I don’t understand how they do it either. But I want to support them in every way I can.
Maria and I have agreed to judge the Mansion and Memory Care art shoes scheduled for September.
My catering lunch plan for the Mansion is stalled because none of the restaurants have enough help to make extra sandwiches. Something else for me to not understand.
We were able to fund an outing today, the first in two years.
Activities Director Julie took four residents to Bennington to have lunch next to the deer park on the edge of town. They can sit and eat while watching the deer kept in a fenced-in park. The outing cost $60.
No boat trip this year, alas.
The art supplies we sent them on a Wish List last month are a lifesaver. The residents are painting, sewing, building, and molding. Thanks.
Our BC Provincial health officer has a wonderful saying – Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe. Good words to live by.
Interesting post. Like learning about health care in other places. I am an ER nurse in Tennessee who retired early, in March. Covid cases appeared to be decreasing.
I did not realize Covid cases would be increasing later or I would have stayed. The hospital did not mandate vaccines. Half of the ER staff would have quit , including ER drs., along with many others. The ER especially does not like being forced into anything. “My body, my choice ” . One of the staff had antibodies and had never been sick. Others thought the vaccine had been rushed through. We were afraid. There is so much more information now. Yes, I got vaccinated in August.
