Color And Light, After The Storm

by Jon Katz

After darkness light, after sadness joy, after death, life.

After the storm, I went out looking for some color and light. They were not hard to find.

The gardens are bursting with color here, so much rain. We think of the people caught in the fires, the drought, the heat, the floods.

Are we abandoning these people to their fate as Mother Earth takes her revenge?

I thought the Naked Ladies deserved black and white.

  1. The house is beautiful. Your relationship with your raised garden is a wonder to behold. I’m happy for all of you. I love reading about your marriage with Maria — mostly because you seem to have so much fun together. And BTW, i had no idea chickens had friends. Happy birthday old man. Just for the record i turned 81 last week …. And am grateful for all of it.

  2. I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog for quite a while and it’s refreshing. As is your goodness and common sense. And clarity. Blessings on you and your friends.

  3. Jon, you have a gift for seeing colour and you have a gift for seeing the difference between black and white subjects and colour, and which deserves the choice of camera. Colour brings such joy visually but black and white is a studied process, it requires someone who knows how to ‘see’. And you do. I’m a colour addict but your black and white photos require a little more concentration for me to see as you do. Thank you for both.

    1. Thanks Sandy, somebody told me early on that photography is not what the camera sees but what the photographer sees..I think this is true..

  4. Your photos and stories are like a lifeline. As one of those caught in fire, drought, heat, oppressive smoke and hospitals on the brink of collapse because of the delta variant, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your reminder that there is still beauty and that you give a thought to us and recognize we might feel abandoned.

    1. CO, I can’t tell you what this means to me, I so appreciate it, I am so sorry for what you are going through, please hand in there, I’ll be sending you light… and taking more photos..

  5. The picture of the pink flowers is so beautiful; the flowers look like they are made out of crepe paper.
