Return Of Mahlon. Mike Loves Our Pasture

by Jon Katz

Mahlon came back for Round 2 on a dry day with a strong sun. Maria, of course, was worried about the horse – Mike today – tied up to the pasture gate all day, so she suggested that we let him run loose in our South pasture.

Lulu and Fanny wanted no part of it, they disappeared into the barn. Mahlon ran out of paint so we’re going to get more Saturday and he’ll finish the painting Monday or Tuesday.

We’re asking him to do a second coat when he has time, just to give the paint a long life. Mahlon just keeps working, I keep feeding him chilled water, which he and his younger brother (one of them) appreciate.

It’s hot out there.

It’s nice having a horse in the pasture again, Mike ran around for a while then found some bushes to hide in to keep the bugs away. He keeps running over to the Schoolhouse Studio to watch Maria work on her quilt through the window.

Lulu and Fanny stuck their heads around the corner and vanished.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t end up inside of the studio munching on apples. We’ll go get more paint in the morning Mahlon is working day and night on roofs and barns to make up for all the lost time in the rain.

He is excited about getting a tropical fish. He can’t have a tank that needs a heater or a filter, since he doesn’t use electricity so this will be a challenge for me. He loves the fish tank idea.

We are loving the color.

  1. Jon and Maria, blue takes on a dignity and authority all its own. White may have a benevolence but blue has a calm authority. It seems upright on its own. And I am not sure why. I love it. Veronica
