More Lambs Coming To Bedlam Farm?

by Jon Katz

More lambs might be coming to Bedlam Farm soon. This morning, Maria and I drove to Brandon, Vt. to drop off the shorn’s wool a month ago.

We’ll get it back as yarn and roving (for dryer balls) in four or five months.

We also stopped to visit our friend Liz Willis in Florence; she has a farm with more than 60 sheep. Maria and Liz are great friends, and every time we visit, a new lamb or two ends up on the farm.

Liz sheared our sheep for several years but has turned it over to someone she helped train herself, her friend Ian.

Liz has a new border collie puppy, Jim, a great dog.

We are indeed replenishing our wool supply; three or four of our sheep are getting old and not producing much yarn.

They will have a home here for as long as they live, but we’ve added several young sheep to the flock, and I sense Maria would like a few more.

Moise is looking for sheep and lambs, and perhaps I can broker a deal. She has nice sheep, Romneys, Blue Luster, and some Cormo.

It was a sweet visit; we sat outside watching the sheep,  met Jim, visited Liz, and caught up. She sent us home with beats, lamb meat, and kale.

  1. Blue faced Leicester and cormo are two wonderful breeds! They will add a lot to your/Maria’s fiber. I’m enthusiastic about the new additions to the flock!
