I went to the Miller Farm on Donut Friday to buy some donuts and bring them to the Mansion aides, as I do on Fridays.
As I was leaving, some of the girls came running down the hill shouting my name. They were holding the first blueberries that have sprouted on the Blueberry Patch.
We ended up with 41 new young bushes.
They call me the “Godfather of their Blueberry Patch,” an honor I never quite imagined getting. I took some photos of them sitting in Delilah’s hand.
It took a lot more work than I realized to get a Blueberry Patch started, and these young women have been out there every day planting, trimming, watering, weeding.
It looks like they’ll be selling blueberries next week. I suggested trimming them back; that makes them more productive next year. I think I want “Godfather Of An Amish Blueberry Patch” on my resume if I ever have to apply for work.
I have to confess I love these new titles and tasks. I’m learning things I never knew I didn’t know.
