(Bud went AWOL from the Wake Up Squad this morning, it was cold and rainy outside and he decided to curl up next to me on the pillow rather than chase us both out of bed. I got his shot of him snoring right next to me.)
This is a landmark day for us. Our small movie theater, Images in Williamstown, Mass., is opening after an absence of more than a year.
We will be there this afternoon to see Frances McDorman in Nomadland. This will be the third time I’ve seen the movie, the second for Maria.
Going to the movies is one of the things she and I most love, we go see a movie almost every weekend and then go out for food in Williamstown – Indian, Mexican, or Asian.
We’ll have to wear masks until we sit down and make reservations online, and keep our distance from other people, at least for a while.
We are very happy to be going to the movies today. Slowly but surely, we are getting back to normal, shaking off some of the heaviness.
Previews, a great film, popcorn. And a nice short ride in the country. What better on a rainy day?
McDormand is amazing in this movie, she won an Oscar for her performance. The theater opening is a big thing for us. So is the Mexican food we expect to be eating afterward.
Tonight, a fire in the woodstove and a good book. The weekend is shaping up.
Francis and the rest of the actors are terrific in Nomadland. I read the book and was able to get the movie on Demand on TV. The movie illustrates the plight of many American seniors. Life-long low paying jobs (which tend to be the most taxing on a person’s body and mental health) don’t lead to a secure retirement ($600 or $800 a month is a joke in 2021). If companies are going to hire retirees who move around the country, said companies should provide extremely nice facilities for these people to park their trailers, cars and tents. Complete with nice bathroom facilities and a cafeteria where people can buy a hot meal at low rates, and some type of emergency medical team (after all older people usually have health problems). The book was enlightening, and I strongly recommend it.
You can see the intelligence in his eyes. He’s thinking, it’s wet, cold & mushy outside so why bother. I can hold it for a while. Can’t the people put slippers on me & hold an umbrella? I am special. I deserve that.
I’m with Bud. I am tempted to print his picture and display it on my desk captioned “ Questions before coffee are at your own peril.”
He’s all wrapped up in his little blanket. It’s a wonderful afternoon to do that. He’s so adorable.
