Last Four Blueberry Bushes. A Good Job, If I Say So Myself.

by Jon Katz

The last four blueberry bushes I’ve ordered for Moise and his farm arrived today; I rushed them up to the farm and left them with the girls, who have been planting the others and digging holes.

I also brought up some netting that arrived today to keep the birds and deer off of the bushes when they bear fruit. The four I brought today are already producing berries.

These four looked great, green and tall and ripe.

I think this concludes my work on the blueberry bush project for the Miller Farm. Although I consider this my blueberry patch, it doesn’t belong to me, although Barbara promises me some free blueberries.

Except for the netting, which I just dropped off today, I’ve been reimbursed for every penny that I’ve spent. And I’ll get that back in the morning.

I kept these plants moist, and they’ll be in the ground right after breakfast tomorrow. They look very good to me. I blessed them and hope they bring prosperity and comfort to Moise’s farm, he is working himself to the bone.

Moise and I made a great team; we figured out what we wanted to do sitting together at my computer and comparing berry prices, shipping fees, and the size and nature of the bushes.

And we’ve done it. Moise is nearly overwhelmed with work, and I’m happy to have been able to act as his blueberry wingman and that he trusted me enough to do that when he needed some help.

This was a first for me, which made it even sweeter.

We have netting, plenty of peat moss, great irrigation to keep the bushes moist but not soggy. I think I’ve anticipated everything we need.

I’ve ordered so many blueberry bushes from so many different places I forget what kind of blueberries they are, but I have the number of the nursery and can find out.

I’m in love with Tina who saw me a long way off and came running and leaped into my arms. We are in love. I’ve always had a weakness for crazy herding dogs.

Mose and his daughters did the hard work, digging nearly 40 foot deep holes and digging and installing an irrigation system that is the essence of modern farming.

Everything I bought was on sale or discount, in true Amish style and we only had to pay a shipping me once. I’ll keep how I did that a secret; I’m’ sure you will understand.

Sometime between Friday and Monday, I’ll pick up the Amish straw hat Moise’s sister is making for me. I’m honored.

I suspect it will look strange on me, and there are rumors I might get to ride in one of those horse and carriage buggies one day soon.

That would be a kick.
