Moses’ Shed, Day Two

by Jon Katz

Traditionally, the Amish do not accept any kind of old age or public assistance of any kind. They do not buy insurance. Older Amish people who become needy are cared for by relatives.

Should a close relative become impaired, incompetent or unwilling to receive family help, the church will come to their assistance.” – Amish Peace, by Suzanne Woods Fisher.

Today was the second day of Moses’ work on his vegetable and baked goods shed, the roof went up. This construction was done by Moses and two of his sons and several of his daughters.

No outside workers were used.

A two-horse carriage helped to carry the wood he cut down for his miller work. He told me he expects to finish the shed by the end of the week. Moses is my new Amish neighbor and friend.
