The “Hope” Quilt And A Dramatic Video From Maria’s Studio

by Jon Katz

Note: Maria sold her quilt about 10 minutes after her video was posted on her blog. j

Maria has gorgeous new quilt hours from completion. She never thinks she’ll sell anything she makes, and even though she always does, she never takes it for granted.

This quilt, “Hope,” was made to commemorate what seems to be a looming end to the awful experience of 2020 and the pandemic and political divisions.

Life with an artist is always exciting. If Maria hasn’t sold her quilt within minutes of making it – this one isn’t finished yet – she starts to get nervous and studies her bank account.

I am not unbiased, but I really don’t think she needs to worry about this one.

The quilt is beautiful, constructed in part from the gifts and contributions of other artists. I went to do a video, and it turned out to be a wild one – interrupted by barking dogs, visiting workers, and the brilliant but deranged mind of the artist. Come and see, this quilt is among the most beautiful Maria has ever made and the most timely.

The Wake-Up Squad continues to star her on the farm.

The dogs were barking so much I let them in and stomped my feet, and they quieted down. Photo below.

  1. That woman has a really nice stash! This is from a quilter that knows stashes. The quilt is lovely.
