“Katz On Dogs” Returns To The Radio At 6 P.M. Next Wednesday: Stream Anywhere In America at WBTNAM1370.

by Jon Katz

I’m happy to announce that next Wednesday, at 6 p.m E.S.T.  March 31, my radio show “Katz On Dogs,” will return to Community Radio Station WBTN  AM in Bennington, Vt.

(The broadcast was initially set for 8 p.m., it will be six p.m. Wednesday, March 31. Eventually, the broadcast will be moved to the afternoon as soon as the station can find someone to help with the board and call. Hang in there, it will be confusing for a bit.)

We’re not fixed on the regular time. If the station can find someone to help me run the board, we might move it up to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Over the next few months, WBTN will be broadcast on FM as well as AM, but the show can be heard almost everywhere in the world thank to the miracle of streaming.

The show is a meaningful (hopefully) dialogue about dogs and animals between me and you. We insist on civility and usefulness, as always.

The show will be for one hour every week.

We’re trying out Wednesday evening as a time slot, but if that doesn’t work, we can move it around. The station is coming to life in a number of ways, I am a strong believer in the value of community radio.

I’ll be working with Lee Dufresne, the new program manager of the station. We met today, and I liked him a lot – he’s direct, funny, and full of energy, something the station has needs.

This is “Katz and Dogs” 2.0. The first version was successful, the calls were pouring in and so was support for this tiny struggling community radio station.

In the age of greedy and destructive corporate media, community radio has never been more vital. I am happy and proud to be supporting it.

You can hear the show anywhere in America by getting a free radio app – Tunein.com or one just like it and go to WBTNAM.org and listen live. The program will also be broadcast later in the day as a podcast.

Maria was a frequent guest on my first show, we talked about our lives with animals, I hope she’ll agree to come on again regularly.

Callers are very much welcome.

The call-in phone line is 802 442-1010, I judge the program by the number of callers I get, and it will take some time to build that up.  I’m not known for my patience.

The show’s success in my mind depends on people calling, not just listening.

Zinnia will be my radio companion dog. She’ll be in the studio each week. The show works best when I am talking to people about their dogs or cats and other animals.

I’ve fantasized for years about hosting a thoughtful, helpful, and intelligent broadcast about animals. Our conversations are safe. I’ve written a dozen books about dogs, time to put that research and experience to good use.

There are very few of those kinds of broadcasts, at least that I’m aware of. I did this in Albany for a couple of years and at WBTM for five months a year ago.

Animals like dogs have never been more connected to human beings than they are now. There are nearly 80 million dogs in America now, their new work is supporting the emotional lives of people.

My favorite topics include the intelligence of dogs, the souls of dogs, training that is simple and works, the importance of choosing a dog well, and sharing what is known about their feelings and quirks.

I’ll be mentioning this show every day in the rundown to Wednesday, 8 p.m., March 31. I hope we get off to a good start.

Phone: 802 442 1010. Streaming address: WBTNAM.org to listen live.
