When newborn lambs are healthy, their feces is yellow and fluid. Then it hards and can clog the bowels of the lamb. This is why people remove the tails of sheep, it gets awful messy down there.
Maria held Robin and I got some surgical scissors and cut away, clearing the rear. It was kind of messy, but we worked it out.
Mother and son are doing well, the vet is coming sometime tomorrow to give Robin his shots, look him over, and put a band on his tail, which will deaden it and ultimately remove it.
The scene in the stall is calm and touching. When we go in now, it is common to see them both lying down next to each other under the heat lamps.
Robin is eating well and Laurie is taking good care of him. I took this still life to try to catch the feeling in the barn. The feeling is just right. We like having a lamb again.
Beautiful, impressionist photo. Very peaceful.
