Ice Storm, Jackson, New York

by Jon Katz

We have been spared the fate of Texas and the South, but we have our almost daily ice storms, and there is a silent, poignant beauty to them if you have heat and drinking water.

I took this photo early Tuesday morning and you can almost hear the soft sound of the ice falling on the trees and the snow.

  1. We’re not accustomed to ice storms here in our part of Oregon, so therefore not well prepared. This is day 7 of no power, heat or water. Our lovely mature trees have suffered terrible carnage. That’s the worst loss.
