Sue Silverstein sent me this photo right after Red and I started working at the school with the refugee kids for three years ago.
They loved Red; many in this class were chosen because they were afraid of dogs.
He cured that quickly.
I’ve had a wonderful association with Bishop Maginn; I miss seeing and talking with the kids. And I miss Red, although Zinnia is a stellar therapy dog.
I think by the end of Spring, I’ll be able to go back into the school again once I’m vaccinated, which will happen early in March,
The social distancing hasn’t kept me from staying tough. Sue Silverstein and Principal Mike Tolan stay in touch. I have many e-mail pas there, but this photo jiggled my heart a bit.
This work is immensely uplifting and satisfying and gives so much meaning to my life. These children are such good people, kind, brave, and forgiving. What a gift to know them.
All of these children have gone on to community college or four-year schools.
I can just imagine the good these kids will do as adults having received so much from the Army of Good and their school.
Such a life changing experience they gained for living in your area and the generosity of those good folks in the Army.
There is no way it could have been anticipated.
Truly amazing.
