Beverly Carroll, a co-owner with her daughter-in-law Kayla of Carroll’s Consignment Trading Post, called me to see she had some beautiful men’s flannel shirts and some almost new corduroy elastic waste pans for women.
Also, three bears she was donated to the residents. Bev and Kayla have been a wonderful friend to the Mansion residents. I used to drive all over Vermont and New York State to find the right clothes in the best possible shape.
Now, I usually only have to go to Carroll’s Trading Post. I got 12 flannel shirts for the male residents of the Mansion (I’ve only met two of them, due to the pandemic) and 12 pairs of corduroy elastic waist pants for women.)
The Mansion clothing project is ongoing; it goes on all year. We make sure – the Army of Good does – that everyone has warm clothes for winter, cooler clothes for summer, air conditioning for the rooms, the right size, and quality shoes.
I got the men’s shirts as a donation and paid $40 for the pants. I’ll get them over to the Mansion Monday, it’s cold this week, and some new residents need some support.
I’ve got to get my vaccination shots before returning to the Mansion or Bishop Maginn. I’m eligible under state guidelines because of my age and two chronic conditions.
I’ve decided to wait a bit until everyone at nursing homes and the Mansion and all the teachers and aides I deal with get their shots. I’m careful. I’m told the local pharmacy will get vaccines soon, and I’ve decided to wait for that.
I love getting the right clothes for these people, and I only accept clothes that are clean and in excellent condition.
Your help is welcome for the Mansion work. If you wish to donate, you can contribute to me via Paypal, [email protected], or a check to Jon Katz, Mansion Fund, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
Some of the donation money will bring some catered food to the residents every week or so; they need breaks in their routines. Thanks.
