Winter’s Night, Bud Watches Over Maria

by Jon Katz

The coronavirus has changed our lives, as it has the lives of so many other people. We often went out at night, to eat or visit friends. We almost never go out at night now.

This is okay, better than okay. We’re happy to sit and talk and gather in the living to watch a documentary or movie – tonight it’s MLK-FBI on Apple TV, the story of the FBI’s intense surveillance of Martin Luther King.

As always, dogs are a part of our lives. Maria sits and reads in the big green chair, Bud either sleeps curled up next to her or stands watch on the footstool.

This is one of my favorite and most calming scenes. So many good things come from trouble sometimes.

  1. While I get much food for thought from your entries I don’nt write in much it I have to say that when I irst glanced at this photo I thought for a second that you were photographing our snuggery, otherwise known as the snug!
Thank you or everything you write, even for the maybe 5 per cent I want to argue with!

  2. I love seeing your stacks and stacks of books around your house! My house looks the same and gives me such peace and comfort knowing that I always have another book to read. Keep those stacks growing!

  3. I love seeing all the books throughout the room!!! Also…. thought Bud was not allowed on the furniture!!! Ha Ha-he looks so cozy beside Maria!!

  4. I absolutely love this picture! I have the oriental carpets too, and I am simply addicted to them. That and good books! I applaud you two! Happy wintering!
