Plants have always eluded me. I can’t tell one from another, I never remember their names, or whether they love light or warmth or cold. Maria knows all of this, and it is common in my life to see a plant rescue underway.
Yesterday, I came into the kitchen and I saw that Maria had plucked a struggling plant out of a jar near a windowsill. Too cold, she said.
It was being rehomed, right there on the kitchen floor. I’ll come across it soon, thriving in more sunlight.
I know exactly how you feel! I like to garden, probably because I love the colours of the flowers, but other than tulips, I struggle to name them. My wife knows their names, and she is constantly checking on the health of the indoor plants that fill the house….whereas i rarely see them, or feel their soil. But I do weed the garden pretty religiously…though I sometimes have to double-check to make sure the thing I am about to get rid of is not a potential thing of beauty!
Love the colorful kitchen.
Inspired by the Army of Good, I have started meeting small needs in my own community. One of the groups I belong to now donates weekly to our local food pantry, which just informed me that they have no more room to store food! I’ve donated holiday presents to a woman who works with mentally disabled seniors who otherwise would have no presents, items for homeless adults being collected as an Eagle Scout project, clothing to a woman who works with women struggling with homelessness, among others. Very small scale compared to the Army of Good but it’s making a difference and I am grateful for the inspiration.
wonderful to read that Ann, thanks for telling us..good is infectious I think..
Maria is “The Earth Mother.”
