The first wave of Amazon Wish List Christmas toys arrived at Bishop Maginn High school today, the Army of Good sold out the Wish List in less than a day, and the families of Bishop Maginn wanted me to thank you for ensuring their children have a joyous Christmas, even as another virus shut down looms.
The students selected gifts for their siblings and for one another.
(The above message was posted on Facebook today)
The school also posted this thank you to the Army Of Good on Facebook this morning as they notified the families in the community that the food gift cards we went – $1,000 worth – arrived yesterday are ready for distribution.
We have assured these families that they will have food and Christmas presents this year – a very hard year for them – no matter what.
I am so proud of you and of us for this. Thank you. Many more boxes are on the way. I hope to make it to Bishop Maginn this Wednesday to talk to some of the students if it is deemed safe for me.
I am, as you know labeled high risk for the virus, but I think I can go there safely. Sue Silverstein won’t let me near the place unless she is sure.
It is great relief to have both food insecurity and Christmas gifts sent before any possible shutdown. Thanks again for existing.
“… if you have enough people of goodwill who are willing to work on behalf of those values, then things can get better.” Reading the Goldberg interview with Obama, this line made me think of General Jon and the Army of Good! The boxes of joy in the picture above is such a good example of helping things get better, including ourselves in the process.
Thanks Barbara, it is a joy and a wonder to me..
