The Story Of Autumn

by Jon Katz

Our birdbath is spending her last days outdoors, in a week or so, she’ll be in the barn, quiet until next Spring. She has been from the first a beautiful addition to the garden.

Today, she is telling the story of autumn.

Dead leaves, disintegrating leaves, new leaves preparing to die. There’s a lot to be learned from the way leaves depart the world, they die in the most graceful and beautiful way.

I hope to do the same.

The birdbath told us the story of Spring, and then Summer and now, her final story of the year, the Story Of Autumn. I try to never forget how beautiful the world can be.

  1. Jon I have needed to hear the soothing words of nature. I think your heart procedures not only healed the mechanics of your heart I think your heart has been touched in other spiritual ways. Beautiful poem. Even though I live half a country away in Lindsborg, Kansas and I don’t have woods to walk in I do have clean, clear big skies and rolling hills. My walks give me the solace of your walk in the woods. Stay well and stay safe friend. Becky Anderson
