Thanks, Edward Hopper. Gift Cards! Food, Soap…

by Jon Katz

This is Edward Hopper day, my favorite painter and photographer. I’m putting up some photos to honor him. This was a photo of our Maria-designed kitchen made into a photo painting in the style of Hopper.

He also loved to take photos of curtains blowing in the wind.

I also wanted to mention that my Price Chopper Gift Cards stack is pretty low – just three cards left. We are still supporting some refugee families and Mansion aides who are food insecure.

That is a soft term for hunger and fear. I’m helping five families all together right now, three in the Bishop Maginn Community, two aides – single moms with kids – at the Mansion.

It is always a shock to me to meet and know people in America who do not have enough food to feed their children three healthy meals a day, but I am learning that there are many.

We can’t support them all, but I am very proud that we kept the refugee families and children in the Bishop Maginn Community eating healthy and plentiful food from March to now.

Many families have adults (and kids) who are working again but some still need help. The same is true of some of the Mansion aides, who work hard, are paid little, and are struggling to have enough food for their children.

Please help if you can, all of the people we are helping are close to Price Chopper markets.  you can buy cards in any amount here. They need to be sent to me, Jon Katz, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816 or Jon Katz, 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.

If you aren’t comfortable buying things online, please feel free to send a contribution to me – Jon Katz, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. I’ll gladly purchase them for you.

I should also mention that these families all shop at Wal-Mart, and they also need items like soap and shampoo and other toiletries. The Wal-Mart gift card site is remarkably easy to use, and these cards give the recipients the option of buying necessities – socks, etc.

You can buy the Wal-Mart cards here. in any amount.

I’m been applying to Wal-Mart trying to get a discount code for the cards, but I haven’t worked it out with them yet. I can’t get a discount from Price Chopper.

Again, these gift cards should be sent directly to me at either of the addresses above.

P.S. We have a neat new podcast up about our lives on Bedlam Farm.
