I’m putting aside the sadness of the pandemic.
I’m putting aside the poison of politics.
I’m spending the weekend with two wonderful women, Maria and the author Anne Tyler, whose new book “Red by the Side of the Road” came out recently and arrived in the mail today.
Anne Tyler is my favorite contemporary author, it is a treasure for me when a new novel of hers is published. My daughter was born in Baltimore and I edited a newspaper in Baltimore and loved living there.
Tonight we are going to see a friend in some trouble. Tomorrow, another friend has invited us to a shellfish lunch outside on her lawn. We appreciate re-connecting with people, and I hope I get some crab.
Otherwise, the weekend belongs to Anne. I wish you all peace and compassion and safety.
Have you read much Gail Godwin. She’s equally good.
