Today, Bishop Maginn put up a second very short and inexpensive Emergency Amazon Reopening Wish List, the school has received some new instructions from the New York State Health Department.
We’ve gone a long way in helping this school to re-open. Just a little farther to go.
It is daunting to realize how much they have to do, and how little time or guidance there is in doing it.
For example, students in the art class can’t pass their artwork along to their teachers or show it to other students.
So the teachers have to find a completely different way to do art, each student must have a digital camera to record their artwork and store and transmit it visually.
That kind of change is true across the board.
So the school needs ten digital cameras, I chose one that costs $40.00 each and will work well for them. It’s hardy and of good quality.
The school also needs 10 $4.99 hard cases for the cameras, they need to last a good while.
In addition, the school will need 20 Sandisk 32GV memory cards, they cost $7.95 apiece.
The last item is four-panel room divider privacy screens to protect against transmitting any virus as they work. They cost $44.99 apiece and will permit the students to at least see and speak to one another safely.
The teachers fought hard to at least give the students the opportunity to get to know each other since they are losing sports and almost all common recreational activities.
The Catholic Church is doing everything it can to support the opening of its schools, but as you probably know, they are very short of funds right now. I believe we are helping to keep Bishop Maginn open, a great boon for the refugee children and their families.
The school needs some other things but they are reluctant to ask for them now, they think they are too expensive. I argued with them but lost.
They are very conscious of not seeking too much money. There is some chance Congress will make some funds available to some schools if a new stimulus package is approved. That proposal is in doubt.
So if you can, please consider helping with this wish list, the need is urgent and the time is pretty short. At the moment, once these items are sent, the school will have what it needs to open in September. Thanks so much.
