First Solar Electric Bill. $15.93

by Jon Katz

As promised, I wanted to share our first electric bill since the solar system came.

Our last bill before the solar panels was installed was $167.

In the winter when Maria’s studio is heated and we use electric floorboards in the bedroom for heat, the bill is usually in the lower $200 range.

The new bill, for July, was $15.93. That is essentially a service charge from our electric company, which will be our bill up to the winter months.

Today, it rained and was cloudly, the panel drew 32.84 kilowatts.

This month, the panel has supplied 838.25 kilowatts. In the six weeks that we’ve had the panels, we’ve drawn 1.07-megawatt-hours. It was cloudy and rainy all day, but we still drew 32.84 kilowatts, about one half of our normal power draw.

I’m happy with the solar system.

It’s saving us a lot of money (we pay a small monthly fee to the credit union which gave us a a$9,000 loan.) And we are helping  Mother Earth. This feels good.

  1. Hi Jon, wow this is amazing. So $9,000 for the solar system correct? Boy I’d love to do this. Hmm
