I can think of few things more satisfying in my life than honoring these heroic men and women who have labored day and night seven days a week to keep the Mansion residents safe.

In a state where the coronavirus killed more than 4,000 people in elder care facilities, the Mansion aides made sure that no one got sick from the virus at the Mansion, or died from it.

Maria and I (mostly Maria) put together a banner for the aides and we put it up on the Mansion law Sunday morning. Tomorrow, I’ve ordered a huge cake from Jean’s Place to go with the weekly catered lunch.

I hope to get to Jean’s Place before the cake leaves tomorrow for the Mansion. I want to get a photograph.

It says “Heroes Work Here,” and is big enough for all of the aides and staff.

I learned late in life that there really is nothing that feels better than doing some good, especially for people like this.

The work is grueling, relentless, sometimes messy, and unpleasant. I’m so glad Nathan McKenzie, the Mansion Maintenance Director ask for our help in buying a new disinfectant fogger.

It freed up the aides to be with the residents and helped to make the Mansion safe.

They earn little and have few benefits. All the more heroic to see how hard they work and how dedicated they are.
