As some of you know, I was a political writer once and gave it up to write about dogs and animals and life. People ask me why I am writing about politics now.
This message is why.
Jon, Thank you for your daily effort to help all of us think about things from a new perspective – to grow and to learn. Your writing has helped me divorce myself from drowning in too much information to limiting my news watching to one hour of local and national news (as middle of the road as I can find) and reading your blog.
I open my iPad each morning and go to email to get your latest articles. I have discovered that I can make it through the day without so much hate and loud voices. And then be safe and reasonable in my attempts to stay healthy and help others stay healthy. I just lost my mother in law to the virus. And my sadness is not in her loss (She was 90 and lived a good life)as much as in my inability to say goodbye and not seeing her for the past 4 months.
I will read more about democratic socialism now. You have piqued my interest.
Thanks, Pam, for reminding me why I am doing this work, which I love but can also be disturbing these days, as it draws much hate and anger. I appreciate the note.
Thank you Jon, for putting up Pam’s note to you. Reading her words helped reinforce what I’ve automatically been doing. I can only listen and see so much. The world is falling apart, humans are falling apart, not only because of this virus but because of all the anger and hatred in this world, in the United states in particular right noe. But in the midst of all this angst and restrictions and fear with the virus, there is kindness too. People are speaking to one another more, people seem kinder, the ones I’ve encountered anyway. Your writing as I’ve said before is inspiring and it makes me think, what better combination to challenge and calm my mind. And to Pam, thank you for your contribution too,

I too thank you, Jon. It’s tough to listen to all this political talk when, clearly, it’s not objective.
From your work experience, you do have a rare background, and your willingness to share your perspectives is appreciated.

I cannot more eloquently write anything beyond what Pam and Sandy wrote. I agree with them both immensely and I am in the same routine myself. Thank you very much for writing as you are, it is like balm on a wound.
