The Hope Dog. The Godmothers Of Jean’s Place

by Jon Katz

This picture was taken before the coronavirus Pandemic that closed Jean’s Place down.

This is a smile photo. When Zinnia was just a couple of months old, I brought her to Jean’s Place, they wanted to meet her. Kelsie, Kelly, and Robin were invited to be unofficial Godmothers to her, and all agreed.

I love the feeling in this photo. Zinnia has evolved into the calm and loving dog we all hoped she would be, and Jean’s Place has come through the awfully dark days of Spring to survive and open up again.

Robin was laid off and has returned to work part-time. Kelly has exhausted herself working in the kitchen on takeout orders. Kelsie is exhausted, determined to help get her family through this.

This photo embodies hope, patience, and love, qualities we will all need and value in the coming months. If Lenore was the Love Dog, Zinnia is the Hope dog.

We can all get through this and we will all get through this.

  1. My how Zinnia has grown. And what an uplifting message,, that working together we WILL get through this!

  2. As you always say (so accurately), Jon: “This is just a space to cross.” We will indeed get through this! There is much joy still to celebrate!

Hugs to you, Maria, and Zinnia!
