Robin Returns To Jean’s Place

by Jon Katz

I was very happy to go visit Jean’s Place this morning and pick up my weekly Sunday brunch. There were five or six full tables outside, and the restaurant was filled with as many people as are permitted by the state health department.

I was very happy to see Robin back. She was laid off, along with most of the wait staff a few months ago. I know she and others had a rough time, the experiences of the furloughed waitresses helped me to see how much rural people were suffering from the Pandemic as well as city, although this group didn’t get sick or die – a big difference.

Still, their lives were upended and they suffered greatly. These are not people with big bank accounts and cash reserves. I was very happy to see most of them return, and the restaurant so busy.

Robin is one of the nicest and most generous people I know, she doesn’t complain or blame anyone else for her troubles, and never stops being empathetic and kind to others.

Welcome back, Robin, you lift up the heart.
