Rainbow Socks: Never Forget The Small Things

by Jon Katz

Who would have thought that mail about my socks would top mail about politics in America? This reminds me to never forget the small things.

The role of the artist, said Joseph Campbell, is to show people the color and light in the world. People will let you know what they need if you listen.

And they need color and light in their lives.

Nancy messaged and said she was having trouble getting her socks on and would I mind having someone take a video of me putting my socks on.

Sorry, Nancy, that’s definitely a bridge too far. I went on YouTube and found a simple demonstration.

There are limits to the open life.

Taking photos of me getting dressed is outside the bounds of duty for me. Besides, I just pull them on, I don’t think there’s any magic to it. Maybe I’ll get on the next Amazon design contest.

I like compression socks and have been wearing them for a long time, ever since my bicycling days. I like the way they fit and feel.

Only recently did I discover they are now being made in color.

I would never wear the white ones, they just looked like old and sick people socks. These new ones have brightened up my wardrobe and they get the day rolling. I am surprised by how much they brighten the start of the day and even happier that they now brighten other people’s day.

Zinnia was not impressed, especially when she could eat some grass.
