I see our farm as the Peaceable Kingdom, I often wonder at the different layers of life here, and at how well they co-exist with one another – no lawsuits, nasty-emails, windbags screaming on cable news channels or the radio.
Yesterday, Maria and I sat on the back porch and ate our Asian take-out. It was a beautiful evening, the white birch reflection in the birdbath was beautiful, one of the hens was pecking around above, and then Minnie was dozing on the stone walk, catching the last rays of the sun, as cats do.
How much I learn from these animals about acceptance and a way to live with other living things.
“This is the scene the Lord hath made, and I am rejoicing in it”. Beautifully serene photo.
I am an increasing oddity these days, as I have lived in the same house my entire life, and I am now in my 70’s. It’s just an old farmhouse, on an acre of land. But, it is surrounded by woods, and I have been careful for years to keep the yard chemical free so I have many critters who wander in and out of the property. The sights and sounds of nature, combined with all the memories I have of this place and those who have lived here, are such solace. It is so renewing to do as you and Maria did yesterday and just slow down, look around and really see, really notice, all of the beauty that I am fortunate to be able to observe.
