I love to watch dogs be dogs. It is always calming and grounding for me. We have a slingshot rubber call, which is great for border collie exercise. Zinnia can’t keep up with Fate, but she loves to try.
I love to watch the two of them run. Today I took a video of the morning, Maria handled the ball. There is something hypnotic about this for me, I hope other people can enjoy it in the same way.
Working dogs like Fate and Zinnia need exercise and activity, work, and stimulation. Labs were not meant to spend their whole lives in basements and back yards. Border collies certainly were not.
We are very fortunate to live where we live, our dogs get to run, walk, and connect with their natural world. I want my dogs to be dogs. Come and see them run.
Where’s Bud?
He’s right here at home? Where is he supposed to be?
I also love watching a dog or dogs run and I use basically the same technique to give my Airedale, Zada, a good workout. I am somewhat crippled up with arthritis, but I can sit in a chair and use a ball sling gadget to alternate between 2 tennis balls. She’s gotten pretty good about bringing a ball back within my reach before she drops it. Even if it isn’t close enough, I can encourage her to pick it up and bring it closer. In good weather, we play in my fenced yard. In bad weather, we go to the basement. Zada is ball-obsessed and would play this game until she dropped dead of a heart attack if I let her. I get tired long before she does. I’m grateful that she likes this so much. Otherwise it would be hard for me to give her enough exercise to keep her fit and happy.
This is awesome to watch. But being a country girl at heart, I enjoyed hearing the sheep as much as watching the dogs.
I loved watching these 2 run, with the chorus of sheep in the background! It is great to see dogs run with abandon!
